What's in the CARES Act Relief Bill for Hemp Businesses?

Last Friday President Trump signed the CARES Act, a $2.2 trillion dollar stimulus and disaster relief package, that makes available funding to help deal with the unprecedented economic impact resulting from the COVID-19 virus.

The bill includes a number of provisions to help farmers and hemp businesses, as long as they are in compliance with their state and federal laws.

From MHC President Justin Swanson, "Midwest Hemp Council urges all hemp farmers and hemp companies to review information regarding the CARES Act in order to take steps to avail themselves of the resources available for small businesses, employees and independent contractors.  The regulatory framework is still being developed, so be sure frequently check the U.S. Small Business Administration website for updates to programs that could be a lifeline to the hemp industry during these unprecedented times."

The CARES Act, signed by President Trump on March 27, 2020, estimated to cost $2 trillion, is the largest authorization and appropriation of federal spending in American history. It covers a vast array of federal programs, including direct financial assistance to Americans, a significant expansion of unemployment insurance, billions in aid to businesses large and small and a new wave of critical funding for the health care industry, tasked with combatting the virus.
