Take Action: Ask House Committee on Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development to Hear HB 1043

We are in the second week of the Indiana General Assembly’s legislative session and we need your help! HB 1043 has been assigned to the House Committee on Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development and the committee members needs to hear from you! If you are a Hoosier consumer, farmer, retailer or other small business owner, please reach out to committee members to educate them on how this bill will benefit you.

Under current law, craft hemp flower is free to pass “in continuous transit” through the state so long as it was not produced by a Hoosier farmer, sold by a Hoosier small business owner or possessed by a Hoosier for personal consumption. The Indiana hemp industry deserves clarity surrounding this unenforceable law to ensure our farmers and small businesses have the ability to compete on a level playing field for a share of the projected $300-$400M craft hemp flower market.

We have also received several reports from members who are attempting to open businesses selling low THC hemp extract consumable goods and getting pushback from their county health departments. HB 1043 provides certainty for our farmers and small businesses across the state by explicitly stating that a food is not considered adulterated solely because it contains low THC hemp extract.

We created an infographic to summarize the main points of the bill to help guide your conversations with committee members and other legislators. Remember your testimony is most impactful if you can personalize the message.

This bill will not get a hearing or move through the legislative process without your active participation. We need your help!
