The Indiana legislative session is coming to a close, with deadlines looming and conference committees being scheduled. While the official end date is March 14, we anticipate the legislature to finish their business before this date. We wanted to provide you with this timely and accurate update regarding SB 209 and HB 1043. 

As you know, we worked hard to remove the offensive language in SB 209 that would have been a huge setback for Indiana consumers and small business and set a horrible national precedent. Unfortunately, Senator Young dissented on the changes made in the House. This means the bill is now eligible for conference committee where further changes to the bill may be made. What can you do to help? Contact Representatives Steuerwald, Teshka, Lucas, Hatcher and Pierce and ask that they continue to support the industry by not signing any conference committee report that negatively impacts Hoosier consumers and the hemp industry. We are waiting on the Senate to assign members and will update you accordingly.

Unfortunately, the Senate committee deadline passed last Thursday without HB 1043 receiving a hearing. While HB 1043 is technically dead for the session, we committed to finding a home for the language during conference committee. We will be sure to update you if/when it is appropriate for the industry to engage on the issue.
