Midwest Hemp Council Leadership Joins Hemp Feed Coalition

After establishing the Midwest Hemp Council Animal Feed Committee and forming a partnership with the Hemp Feed Coalition, exciting progress is being made in unifying the HFC’s vision with MHC membership.

MHC Animal Feed Committee Director and Hemp Feed Coalition Secretary/Treasurer Jessica Scott says, “It’s all about opening up a new market to our hemp growers. Many who want to participate in grain production don’t have enough outlets, gaining approval for hemp as animal feed will benefit all along the supply chain. It’s even more exciting that we can bridge the gap between national groups like the Hemp Feed Coalition and regionally based organizations like the Midwest Hemp Council to support one another and achieve our overarching goals.”

Some of the notable recent collaborations include:

  • Midwest Hemp Council President Justin Swanson has joined the Hemp Feed Coalition’s policy committee. Justin will serve as a policy liaison to Hemp Feed Coalition.
  • Midwest Hemp Council member Kerry Keffaber, DVM, has been elected to the Hemp Feed Coalition’s board of directors.

HFC Executive Director Hunter Buffington says,” I’m excited to have Kerry and his expertise because he is a veteran in toxicology. He’s the first expert on our board to help in that area.”

Kerry is a DVM with an extensive background and expertise in animal feed product development with a concentration in address toxicology issues. He has worked with companies such as Elanco and United Animal Health.

Both Justin and Kerry’s expertise and background will provide tremendous value to gaining approval for hemp as animal feed and opening up hemp feed markets to growers, processors and others along the supply chain.
