Thank you, Chairwoman McNamara and Committee on Courts and Criminal Code

We want to thank Chairwoman McNamara and the rest of the House Committee on Courts and Criminal Code for standing up for farmers, small business owners and consumers in Indiana. An amendment was adopted this morning that deletes the offensive language narrowing the definition of low THC hemp extract and requests a summer study committee to review the issue further.

We look forward to working with the General Assembly and other stakeholders to continue to protect consumer access to hemp derived products, while balancing consumer safety.

This is a big win for the industry, and we couldn’t have done it without your active engagement in the legislative process. Be sure to send a note to Chairwoman McNamara and the rest of the committee members to thank them for sticking up for the hemp industry!

While this is an exciting development, we aren’t done yet. We need HB 1043 to pass this year to ensure that consumers have safe access to hemp flower and Hoosier farmers can unlock the full potential of the hemp market. Craft hemp flower is being sold all over the state by those who are willing to break the law with no consequences, calling into question the safety of the products on the market. This means that those who are unwilling to break the law are losing market share those who are willing to break the law. Be sure to reach out to members of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Technology and ask them to schedule a hearing for HB 1043.
